Maybe you're a Whale / Shark - or a Shark with a little Dolphin in you; Or perhaps you're An Urchin with a big Orca stripe running down your side. Perhaps You're A Little of Each With Stronger Emphasis On One 'Fish' Trait In Particular.Often times we pique someone and we immediately want to tell them all about your companies Compensation Plan, Or I shutter at the thought that one might go on and on about the product details and the jet black cocoa and geranium flower and kelp found in our company's vitamin; Or we firehose them with details about the way our particular team is helping others. Ever thought you might be boring the prospect. And they just might not get excited about the highlights you've chosen to elaborate on?
Perhaps you're just not speaking their language. Understanding the language of a prospect or the varying interests of a prospect can be difficult if you're not aware of what matters to them; What means the most to them and is a hot-button, so-to-speak, to them. (not what is of interest to you - or what you hope they'll be interest in) Understanding that everyone you pique, and what drives them will be different, is critical. You may think you know what someone's hot button is, but what if you're mistaken?
What if you think someone will join because they need money, when in fact, they're just looking for a group to belong to and to add meaning to their lives? What if they're more concerned with finding new ways to help their church or charity and in actuality they are completely turned off by people who talk about money all of the time? This is why understanding personality traits and letting your upline know (when you can) who they're speaking to on your behalf prior to a three-way.
Just this little tid-bit alone can be is vital to your success.Grasping this lesson should be really important to any MLMer as you build your business. Because you can oftentimes, shoot yourself in the foot spouting 'WHALE-TALK' to a 'SHARK' and visa versa. And here is a tip from a die-heart Dolphin, you can bore the eyebrows off of a 'DOLPHIN' really quickly, when speaking 'URCHIN-TALK'.So, listening closely (without interrupting) to what interests a prospect, and paying attention to what they tell you after hearing a call or watching a presentation video, is your job.
When you ask, "What Did You Like Most About What You Just Heard or Saw," ~ they'll tell you. "I liked the fact that they're making money" (Now that's SHARK-TALK). Or perhaps they'll tell you, "I love your team's teamwork and the fact that The Youngs encourage helping others." (That's WHALE-TALK). When they say, "Sounds like you guys are having a ball ~ Where's the party at?!" (That's a DOLPHIN) folks ~ AND last but not least, "I need to know more, I have a lot of questions, like: Where do they get the fruit that goes in the juice and how much Vitamin B and K is really in that pill of yours?" (They just might be an URCHIN).EDIFICATION AND USING THE INFORMATION YOU RECEIVE TO HELP YOU:
Because Edification is the Key ~ You'll Want To Master This. Edification Saying Something Good About Someone Else. Removing Yourself From The Equation and Allowing Someone Other Than Yourself To Be The 'Expert'. Done Well, this what makes your prospect want to meet someone else other than you, whom they'll respect in fact, because of you and your edification of them.When edifying an expert prior to a three way call, we edify using all four 'Fish Traits' to each prospect, because it is generally impossible off the cuff to know which trait is anyone's most dominant.
So when asked to tell someone everything, we resist the urge and we close our mouths and we graciously refuse, saying, "I'd like for you to hear about this awesome opportunity the way I heard it ~ from someone I have so much respect for: Mr. -Or- Mrs. Expert. They're (SHARK) Making a ton of money or positioned to make a ton of money; They're (DOLPHIN) Having a whole lot of fun;(WHALE) Helping Other People;(URCHIN) And they have 100% of the facts. Allow me to introduce you to, Mr. or Mrs. Expert".And understand, anyone can be 'The expert.' It's all in the way you edify them. If you edify Donald Duck properly, he could be an expert.
But remember, always edify using all four traits. Why? Because you never know who you're talking to. And when you do, by listening and ascertaining details, the 'expert' can edify with more emphasis on a particular trait. The prospect will feel like they know the 'expert' and they will be more receptive to him or her. And because the purpose of a three-way phone call is to INVITE ~ The edified 'Expert' can invite the prospect out to hear more about what he or she is interested in, attracted to and eager to learn more about.
